Medscheme Development
With the Medscheme Development Team well into its second successive
year, things are looking promising as the riders head into the new
season.
Two of the Teams top performers, Oupa Maluleke and Simphiwe Mhlakaza have moved into the U23 category and the riders have also been offered places on new teams. Maluleke will move to the Mr Price Youth Team while Mhlakaza will be on the National U23 Academy Team.
The move is promising because it means that the Medscheme Development Project is nurturing some talented riders and grooming them for a promising future.
The team currently consists of 7 riders, four U16’s and three Junior riders with plans to recruit another youngster and also extend the programme to give more aspiring cyclists an opportunity to break into the sport.
For the 2010 season Kgotso Molefe, Thulasizwe Mxenge, Nhlanhla Ncongo, Siphiwe Msibi, Rivoningo Mthombeni, Aubrey and Owen Ngcobo will tackle all of the big one-day races on the calendar as well as participate in events such as the SA Road and Time-Trial Championships, the National Eric van Enter Schools Tournament and the National Junior Tour.
With a solid backing from their sponsor and sound management team, the youngsters look set to keep the Medscheme flag flying high.
